There are 49 pieces of public art in Syracuse, and Walt is one of them. He resides along the Onondaga Creekwalk at West Fayette and Walton streets in Syracuse’s Armory Square. Walt has been guarding this area since 2011.
The creator of Walt is Brendon Rose, with the help of Industrial and Interaction Design class at Syracuse University. Walt's head is 12 feet tall and his tail section is 15 feet tall. [The tail section is hidden by the small tree.]
Walt is named for the original Walton Tract of the early 1800s. A local resident dubbed it "Lock West Monster" as part of a naming contest.
